Son of a Sikh officer who fought in both World Wars
In this interview, Trilochan Singh remembers his father Harnam Singh Bindra (d 1954) who saw action in Basra and later fought in WW2. He received the Order of British India (OBI), which carried with it the title 'Sardar Bahadur'.
Soon after his retirement in 1949 he passed away, leaving his widow, Ram Kaur, to raise their children.
The interview ends with a recital of two Punjabi poems on the themes of recruitment and the sense of separation felt by the mothers and wives of soldiers, the latter specially composed to commemorate the centenary of the war.
