Introduction

During WW1 families of soldiers would send parcels of food to loved ones on the frontline.

As traditional ingredients like eggs and flour were hard to come by, popular recipes were reinvented using readily available ingredients.

The following recipe for biscuits was originally made to send to ANZACS (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) serving in Gallipoli, Turkey.

What you will need

To make 15 biscuits you will need:

  • Prep time = 15 mins
  • Bake time = 20-25 mins

  • 110g sugar
  • 125g plain flour
  • 125g melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon golden syrup
  • 2 tablespoon boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate soda

    • Make a well in the middle of the dry ingredients.
    • Get an adult to add the butter mixture.
    • Mix into a dough.
