This newly coloured image brings out details that are otherwise difficult to see in the original.
The photograph is from the personal collection of Reginald Savory and depicts men of the 14th Ferozepore Sikhs in trenches at Gallipoli in June 1914.
The soldier in the background can be seen using a periscope to look over the trench without fear of being shot. A fourth soldier peeks out from the left bank of the trenchside. Both of these details are tricky to spot in the original image.
